First, of its kind in India, the drones were first seen on 30th March disinfecting different areas of Vijayawada and later in Delhi on 4th April.

A quarantine station in Delhi was sanitized as a start and later this technique was used by South Delhi Municipality, to sanitize The Markaz Nizamuddin area which had been the epicentre of the COVID–19.

“The drone deployment was meant to bring down human contact in the area. We want our workers’ security and do not want them to get infected.” said the South DelhiMunicipality Corporation.

Prashant Pillai, Co-Founder of Indian Robotics Solutions said, “We are using drones to disinfect a quarantine station in Narela, North Delhi. A lot of people who were evacuated from the Markaz Nizamuddin are quarantined here. A perpetual doubt that the ones who attended the jamaat, near about 2000 in numbers, might be infected with the virus and we are on standby, if Municipalities ask need us, we will do the needful.”

This drone is specially designed for this purpose. A 28 kg body with a 10-litre capacity that can disinfect an area of 1 to 2 km straight in less than two minutes. It contains 1% of Sodium Hypochlorite and is free from any human contact, hence safe.

Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar have also decided to bring drones as a disinfector.
