More than 6,000 People in Lanzhou, China Tests Positive For a Bacterial Disease Named Brucellosis

After the deadly effect of the novel coronavirus in China’s Wuhan which is nearing its first year, another deadly outbreak is being reported from the country affecting so many lives. According to the state report in China’s Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu province, 6,000 people have been affected by the zoonotic bacterial disease known as Brucellosis due to a leak at a vaccine plant, more than a year back.

According to the Lanzhou government at a press conference which states that an estimate of approx 55,725 people have been tested in the city out of which 6,620 have tested positive for this bacterial disease, as per a report on Thursday by the state-owned Global Times. Over 6,000 people got affected due to livestock carrying the bacteria Brucella.

According to, The World Health Organization people get brucellosis with flu-like symptoms through direct contact with infected animals, by eating or drinking contaminated animal products, or by inhaling airborne agents. Some symptoms of this disease are deadly and become chronic and never go away. Lanzhou’s health commission statement mentioned that this outbreak emerged at a biopharmaceutical factory owned by China Animal Husbandry Industry.

As the factory was using expired disinfectants, the contaminated waste gas created aerosols and the wind carried them down.  That was where it was first recorded in November 2019, according to the commission. Due to the use of expired disinfectants from July to August 2019.

Brucellosis remains an unsolved major public health concern at large, hence more efforts are required in order to achieve the goal of controlling this disastrous disease in china.

Where on one hand, the world is fighting from a deadly virus, that is said to be coming from Wuhan, China, another of it if reports seem to be a trouble for sure.
