Nowadays, electric mobility is gaining swinging momentum in the country. It is believed that it will be a highly effective tool to develop a pollution-free medium of transportation. The focus is on generating electricity through renewable sources of energy such as biomass, wind, and tidal.

  • 1) Existing Applicability
  • 2) Functions to be Excogitate

  • Will India swap to the E-Mobility Ecosystem with Assured Cost-Effectiveness?

Official Responsiveness

It is not a moot point to ask why we need to switch to e-mobility. Earth needs this revolution because it will usually contribute to what can be called “Welfare”. The recent International summit, COP-26, has the core objective of securing global net-zero carbon emissions by mid-century.

India is accelerating its e-mobility transition with the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles Scheme to support the electric vehicle market development and enable its manufacturing ecosystem to achieve self-sustenance. The government has also announced a slew of incentives for customers and companies to promote e-vehicles.

As mentioned, the need for e-cars or e-vehicles in India is not a question of moot. The scope for these falls under the three following large verticals;

1) Existing Applicability

More and more EVs will only be able to run on roads if they have positive and safe applicability tests.

The recent switch to e-carts and e-autos is gaining popularity in India. Many rickshaw pullers have already started doing the same and are experiencing better exposure. Hence, it added a new horizon to the jaded mechanical rickshaw pulling lives and passengers as well. Apart from e-carts, e-bikes and a variety of EVs are going to be introduced within the next 2 years.

2) Functions to be Excogitate

After several trials and tribulations, the Government has already formulated a bunch of initiatives.

*GST is only 5℅ on the electric vehicle, as compared to a petrol vehicle, which is 48%.

*Providing subsidies on both sides (supply and demand chain) to supplant petrol-based vehicles.

*NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) has chalked out a plan to install at least 2700 EV charging stations across major highways by 2023.

*8 Million US dollars have been allocated for domestic automobiles.

*A total of 3 billion US dollars has been allocated for the manufacturing of advanced batteries.

3) Upcoming EVs Industrial Revolution

The business fraternity must make the best possible use of this opportunity to invest in climate technologies and expand the use of renewable energy sources. There are currently 270 units of installed EV chargers in India. Government entities like BHEL have partnered with ISRO in order to develop batteries using Lithium technologies. The government aims to switch 30% of private cars, 70% of commercial transportation, 40% of public transportation (Specifically, buses) and 80% of two-wheelers and three-wheelers into electric vehicles by 2030.

Private players like Hero Electric, Lohia Auto, Twenty-two Motors, and Tata Motors are already sprawling their tentacles with their eco-friendly vehicles on the market.

Now the question arises,

Will India swap to the E-Mobility Ecosystem with Assured Cost-Effectiveness?

The answer is bluntly positive. Due to India’s geographic location, we have a dual way (for almost all the regions) to produce electricity with cost-effectiveness. Regions blessed with sunshine can install solar panels to generate electricity. The use of Solar Techniques can highly reduce the cost as we need;

*Rs 10 per kilometre to run mechanical vehicles using petrol.

*Rs 7 per kilometre to run mechanical vehicles using diesel.

But, using electric power, we only need Rs. 1 per kilometre to run vehicles.

For regions with low sunshine, alternatives like wind, hydro and tidal energy can be used to generate electricity.

Due to this tropical-ness, not only can India install an e-mobility ecosystem, but it also invites a revolution in renewable energy generation. In the coming future, there are high chances for India to be the largest exporter of E-Vehicles as well as renewable reservoirs.

30-Seconds Summary

India’s commitment to being a net carbon-zero emitting country is a long journey. The revolution in transportation via e-mobility is a great start. It can assure India’s destiny (carbon-zero emitter) with safety and (seems as of now), has minimum speed breakers. With advancements in technology, it is expected that by 2030, Indian roads will witness running electric cars with utmost ease.
