The 1990s: Baazigar to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
SRK moved from anti-hero roles to romantic lead in this decade.
1. Baazigar (1993)
“Kabhi kabhi kuch jeetne ke liye kuch haarna bhi padta hai, aur haar kar jeetne waale ko baazigar kehte hain.”
Meaning: Sometimes, to win something, you have to lose something, and the one who wins after losing is called a baazigar (a gambler who turns the game). Ajay, the anti-hero seeking revenge, explains the film’s title.
2. Darr (1993)
“I love you, K-K-K-Kiran.”
Meaning: I love you, K-K-K-Kiran. The stammer became the most imitated SRK line of the 1990s.
3. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)
“Bade bade deshon mein aisi chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hain, Senorita.”
Meaning: In big countries, such small things keep happening, Senorita. Raj’s shrug during the Europe trip, now everyday Indian slang.
4. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)

5. Dil To Pagal Hai (1997)
“Rahul… naam toh suna hoga.”
Meaning: Rahul… you must have heard the name. A cocky introduction that later films kept calling back.
6. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)
“Pyaar dosti hai.”
Meaning: Love is friendship. Rahul’s belief that your love should first be your best friend.
7. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)

11. Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003)
“Pyaar toh bahut log karte hain, lekin mere jaisa pyaar koi nahi kar sakta.”
Meaning: Many people love, but no one can love the way I do. Aman, with little time left, about his love for Naina.
12. Swades (2004)
“Main nahi maanta ki hamara desh duniya ka sabse mahaan desh hai, lekin yeh zaroor maanta hoon ki hum mein kaabiliyat hai, taaqat hai, apne desh ko mahaan banaane ki.”

“Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi, naamumkin hai.”
Meaning: Catching Don is not just difficult, it is impossible. First said by Amitabh Bachchan in Don (1978); SRK made it his own in the remake.
14. Chak De! India (2007)
“Mujhe states ke naam na sunai dete hain, na dikhai dete hain, sirf ek mulk ka naam sunai deta hai: I-N-D-I-A.”
Meaning: I neither hear nor see the names of states. I hear the name of only one country: I-N-D-I-A. Coach Kabir Khan to players who introduce themselves by state.
15. Om Shanti Om (2007)
“Kehte hain agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaho, toh puri kainaat usse tumse milaane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai.”
Meaning: They say if you want something with all your heart, the whole universe works to bring it to you. Echoes an idea from Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist.
16. Om Shanti Om (2007)

Meaning: I have tried so intensely to win you that every particle has conspired to bring me to you. A romantic twist on the ‘kainaat’ line, in 1970s film style.
