On the morning of 1st July, 2020, militants opened a cross-firing on a CRPF patrol party of 179 Battalion in Model Town of Sopore, Northern Kashmir. The terrorist onslaught consequentially leads to the killing of a CRPF militant and a senior civilian, leaving three other personnel injured.
“Troops of G/179 CRPF along with JKP while placing NAKA were attacked by terrorists at 07:35hrs which was retaliated promptly”, a Srinagar-based CRPF spokesperson said.
As per ANI, “Terrorists attacked a naka (patrol) party at Sopore’s Model Town. The area has been cordoned off and search operation has been started,” Director General of Police Dilbag Singh, Jammu & Kashmir Police.
“In the Kashmir region, 48 terrorists have been eliminated this month. Till June the security forces have eliminated 128 terrorists, out of whom 70 belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen, 20 each from Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba and remaining from other groups,” Singh said
A three-year-old boy was also rescued during the indiscriminate firing, the boy was found sitting on top of the blood-splattered body of his grandfather who had succumbed to his injuries. The family accompanying the civilian in his car alleged that he was deliberately forced out of his car and shot by the security forces by a spray of bullets.
“A civilian vehicle (Maruti) which was coming from Sopore to Kupwara was caught in the firing range of terrorists. An old man who was driving the vehicle stopped the car and got down from the vehicle to move away for a safe spot but got killed by terrorists firing. Later the young boy was rescued by security forces who took position nearby.” said the CRPF spokesman.

On 26th June 2020, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper and a minor boy were killed when terrorists attacked a team of security forces in Bijbehara of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said. The militants fired upon a road opening party of the CRPF 90 battalion near Padshahi Bagh bridge in the Bijbehara area of the south Kashmir district. Six-year-old Nihaan Bhat was sleeping in a car parked in the area when a bullet struck him. Police claim the attacker was on a bike, and a gun opened fire.
