Recently Indian singer, Sonu Nigam has become a target of massive trolling over the tweet that he posted three years back. On April 21 his three-year-old controversial tweet re-surfaced on Twitter.
"God bless everyone. I'm not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India? And by the way, Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison?", his tweet read and he started getting trolled over it. Moreover, some Twitter users started tagging Dubai Police to Take action Against him.
Amidst all this Adnan Sami came to his rescue. He claimed that Sonu Nigam has respect for all faiths. He called him a "true brother" and extended his support for him through his tweet.
"As far as Sonu Nigam is concerned, forget about his singing which is incredibly beautiful; he is a true brother who has always been by my side and loved me like my own!! I know for a fact, personally, that he respects all faiths!! Kindly leave him alone… #WithYouSonuNigam," Sami tweeted.
Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri also tweeted in support of Sonu Nigam "One should have a right to comment on #SonuNigam the day you connect and heal as many hearts as his music has."
Sonu Nigam is in Dubai for the last few weeks under lockdown as he cannot come to India until it's safe. He is there with his family and his son also studies there. He could not reach India before lockdown and now he has no option but to wait. Amidst all this re-surface controversy, some people are trolling him and some are supporting him but up till now Sonu Nigam has not spoken anything about it. It is being said that the trolling started on this three-year-old post after Princess Hind Al Qassami of the United Arab Emirates while replying to one of the users on his Islamophobic posts, wrote on Twitter " The ruling family is friends with Indians, but as a royal, your rudeness is not welcome. All employees are paid to work, no one comes for free. You make your bread and butter from this land which you scorn and your ridicule will not go unnoticed."
There is also buzz going around that he might have deleted his Twitter account because of trolling but the truth is that he deleted his account in 2017 only.
