Afghanistan is the new issue of politics between India and Pakistan after the long topic of Kashmir. The Modi government has been very straight and vocal over its policy and opposition to militant activities in Pakistan.
In the case of Afghanistan, a formal military response can be a drawback for Pakistan. The reason is the financial crisis in the country at present. It’s not hidden that the Indian Forces have been superior to the Pakistan forces in the past clashes.
So, Pakistan is left with no option other than continuing with its strategy of using militant groups against India. These militants operating in Afghanistan have no obstruction of the US forces now motivating them to concentrate their powers once again on the India-occupied Kashmir.
Their leaders in Pakistan shall try their best to motivate them and equip militants to target the Jammu and Kashmir state of India. The result shall be borne by India with the terrorism strengthened by the Taliban.
India is already handling the aggressive nature of China without any external support. If China further increases its influence over the Hindu Kush ranges then it will further make use of Afghanistan. This is already anticipated by External affairs experts.
The US has lost its control in Afghanistan and the situation will continue to remain the same at least for the foreseeable future. This will slightly decrease India’s strategic control in this region. The collaboration efforts of China and Pakistan shall continue to decrease India’s strategic control in the region.
This situation is a little bit disappointing for India. India has been among one of the biggest economic donors for rebuilding Afghanistan.
India has always extended economic support to Afghanistan with honest efforts for the development of Afghanistan as a nation and as a democratic state.
The long clash between India and Pakistan has made the US stand between the competing nations. The aid by the US given to Pakistan for combating Terrorism is used by it the nation for funding the anti-India campaigns and militants.
This becomes a threat for India. The Modi Government’s decision to scrap Kashmir’s special status is still opposed by Pakistan.
Now, the issue of Afghanistan has made it more complicated. It shall be difficult for the US to strike harmony between its relations with India and Pakistan. The US has already proposed to negotiate between India and Pakistan.
To solve the Indo-Pak issue, the US might attempt to convince India to reverse the scrapping of article 370 from J&K. This might make Pakistan take up a lead in Negotiations with the Taliban in return for the US lobbying in the Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan.
However, this argument by Pakistan that Afghanistan and Kashmir relations are connected has not been openly accepted by the US and Biden Administration.
If the US tries to Negotiate between India and Pakistan, then certainly this move shall not be accepted by India with open arms. This can be a drawback for Indo-US relations. It needs good relations with India for a long time and to facilitate some big purposes.
This is also a reason restricting the US to take up arguments openly over the scrapping of Kashmir’s special status. At the same, the US needs Pakistan for negotiations with the Taliban in the future.
There has been a silence over these issues by the Biden Administration that is a minor disappointment for the Pakistan administration. The Pakistani government is looking to provide support and strike a deal for the Taliban and Afghan government.
Any wrong step can have long-term drawbacks and the US has been trapped into their circle where supporting one side shall have negative impacts on the relation with the other side.
As of now, the US foreign policy is focused on eliminating all threats that are linked with China. India has a similar relation with China and the White House finds India as a good ally in this effort. As a result, all eyes are laid on the new Biden Administration as he has continued to keep silent over this issue.
He has not taken any sides yet and neither openly criticized scrapping of article 370 from J&K. But, again his silence for a long time can have negative effects.
After signing the peace deal and withdrawal of US troops, the Taliban in Afghanistan shall have no impact on new US policy. The Taliban talks with the Afghanistan government have also been stopped after no party showing the intent to solve the issues.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has been one of the first countries to open talks with the Taliban. On the other hand, PM Narendra Modi is likely to travel to the US for the first Quad summit. The future steps of these nations are a much-awaited event for the international community.
