In 2021, for the first time, the national capital of Delhi shows a slight improvement from severe to very poor in its air quality after the Diwali festival. On Thursday the AQI of the national capital of India was reported in a severe category. After Diwali, it caused Delhi to move upwards the next day with 462 AQI the farther.
On Sunday the downward average AQI was 428 that comes under the severe category. After the centre ran SAFAR and the winds blew from the northwest direction at the speed of 925 Millibars. However, it did not contribute much to reducing the problem of stubble-related pollution in Delhi.
On Monday a statement from the Central pollution control board showed the hourly (Air Quality Index) AQI for New Delhi at 7 a.m. was 384. Yet, the impact on Delhi has been reduced with the slowdown in wind speed.
On the third-day report of Tuesday, Air Quality Index Delhi was 372. Meanwhile, the situation of Noida and Gurgaon is more than severe, with air quality reaching up to 478 of Noida and Gurgaon reaching 575.
On Three days following Diwali, Delhi recorded ‘severe’ air quality for three days due to the accumulation of emissions of fireworks on Diwali.
At the same time, there have been crop residue burning amid adverse meteorological climate. Furthermore, other contributing factors were low temperature, wind speed, and mixing height.
However, the high speed of wind has improved a bit and made differences in the air quality index of Delhi to 499.
About 5,450 farm fires, the highest this season, were recorded in neighbouring states on Sunday. Delhi’s air pollution reduced from 48 per cent a day ago. This is the highest in three years. On Monday, up to 3o per cent of air pollution has been reduced due to a drop in transport-level wind speed, according to air quality forecast agency SAFAR.
Comparatively, Last year, the percentage of crop residue burning in Delhi’s pollution was at its peak on November 5. In 2019, crop residue burning was noticed for 44 per cent of Delhi’s PM2.5 pollution in November 1.
How The Air Quality Index is measured?
In the AQI,
- 0-50 is good
- 51-100 is satisfactory
- 101-200 is moderate
- 201-300 is poor
- 301-400 is very poor
- 401-500 is severe
In that mode, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Tweeted the Air Pollution and shared data. It read, “Nov 7 — AQI – 428 (401 to 500 – Severe) PM10 – 450 (Above 430 – Severe) PM2.5 – 309 (Above 250 – Severe),”.
