England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler has raised more than ₹ 61.5 lakhs (£65,000) by auctioning his World Cup 2019 final jersey online in order to raise fund for COVID-19 pandemic. Buttler put his jersey for auction to contribute to buying life-saving equipment to help people fight against this global pandemic.
He played a crucial role in England’s World Cup-winning campaign with an important half-century in the final against New Zealand. Later on, he affected the run-out of Martin Guptill on the last ball of Super Over, with which whole England went into a frenzy as they sealed their maiden 50-over World Cup.
Buttler put his long-sleeve jersey up for sale on eBay, where it attracted 82 bids. The auction got closed on Tuesday with the winning bid being 65,100 Pounds. The proceeds from the auction will go towards specialist heart and lung centres provided by the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals in London.
After a successful bid, he said: “It's a very special shirt but I think it takes on extra meaning with it being able to hopefully go to the emergency cause.”
This jersey will be featuring autographs from all 15 members of the World Cup-winning squad that played at Lord’s last year.
