The youngest of all activist faces, the girl who did dare to be a league-breaker, the girl whose strength, will, and determination to stand strong with the right, years ago made her win billions of hearts globally has now stepped into a new phase of her life. Malala Yousafzai is now a happily married woman.
Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani activist who also happens to be the youngest ever recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize went to announce through the means of her Twitter handle on Tuesday that she and Asser Malik have chosen to begin this auspicious journey of togetherness under a bond named married. Her tweet stated-“Today marks a precious day in my life.
Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead.”
Malala is undoubtedly a globally-lauded activist in the field of human rights, education, and gender equality and thereby the celebration of her marriage was expected to be grander but the ceremony was held in a fairly private fashion, at Birmingham, England. No other details have yet been spewed out about the marriage except for a handful of pictures posted on social media by Malala herself, revealing only the first name of her husband.
This has led to a lot of speculation regarding her husband’s identity. Withstanding the name, a host of social media users have largely been guessing him to be the general manager of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s high-performance centre, hailing from the city of Lahore. However, there has been no confirmation regarding the allied details.
Uncountable messages mentioning best wishes and congratulations have been pouring in from all nooks and corners of the world. The biggest personalities namely Greta Thunberg, Priyanka Chopra, Melinda Gates, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have expressed their happiness through social media platforms, following the public announcement of the aforementioned news.
Malala took this step at the age of twenty-four, about seven years after the incident that in more ways than one had overturned her life forever, initially in a traumatic tone but later turning into a revolution.
Ms Yousafzai has always been a strong proponent of inculcating education within the society, who sees it as the only way out to keep the society together.
More specifically, Malala has been advocating in favour of human rights, educational rights for women and children, and the establishment of equality for a very long period. It was indeed her determination of not succumbing to anything that deterred her way that led to her encounter with the Taliban militants, who were enraged by her conviction and ultimately shot her in the forehead when she was just 15, in the year 2012
It was her sheer will that she defeated death and stood up again, stronger than ever before to fight against the wrongs once again. Owing to her collective efforts for the betterment of humanity altogether, she was conferred with the Nobel Peace Prize in the year 2014, making her the youngest Nobel Laureate at the age of tender 17.
She settled with her family in Birmingham, England, in 2013, where she continued her education and became an activist for girls’ education, appropriating the Malala Fund, an organization she founded with this vision.
In the year 2018, she managed to launch Assembly, a digital publication for girls and young women available on Apple News. She later completed her studies and graduated from Oxford University in June last year with a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
