A team of Rapid Response Force (RRF) was attacked by a mob in North Kashmir’s district Bandipora on Saturday, the team was performing their usual duty in the Gund Dachina village of the district. Attack on the team left a health worker injured.
The health worker who also happens to be the district president of the Health and Family Welfare Department has been identified as Mohammad Saifuddin Dar.
“Three positive cases of COVID-19 were reported from the area, we went there to check for more suspects, as soon as we asked the villagers about the location of the suspects, a mob approached and started to pelt stones on us”. Saifuddin and his team were chased by the mob, he slipped and his foot got fractured which was plastered later.
Despite the attack, the team was successful in transferring the people who were to be quarantined from the village to a nearby center. “We called the police after the incident, somehow managed to leave the area with the people who had to be quarantined” said Saifuddin. “I got myself treated after we made sure that the suspects had reached the quarantine center” He added. Saifuddin called this behavior of people ‘unprovoked’ and said that people should not target the health workers who are risking their lives to prevent the spread of the virus.
Police have registered a case FIR 16 under 353, 107, 148, 188, 269 of the IPC said Javid Ahmad, the SHO of the area.
With over 80 cases, Bandipora tops the list of COVID-19 positive cases in the valley, it recently surpassed Srinagar. Many villages in the district have been red-zoned.
On Saturday, Rohit Kansal, the Government spokesperson said that the number of positive cases in the Kashmir was 287.
