According to a study by the University of Hong Kong, this new variant of Coronavirus replicates around 70 times higher than the delta and the other original Covid-19 strains. The infection severity of the strain might be much lower than per the study.

The United Kingdom has the most cases of the new omicron strain. With 11,708 the United Kingdom tops the list of countries affected severely by the new strain. Denmark is the second one on the list with 9,009 cases, then Norway with 1792 cases, and then South Africa with 1,134 cases. These are the four countries that have the most cases of Omicron Strain.

Joe Biden, United Nations’ President, warned of a “winter of severe illness and death” to the people who haven’t been vaccinated of the new strain and the rate at which the strain is spreading its talons all over the world.

Soumya Swaminathan, a World Health Organization scientist, affirmed during an interview how the spread of the new strain could have been stopped. “It was in the world’s hands to prevent this if we had used the tools that we have equitably around the world.

We had enough vaccines to vaccinate people around the world.” IMF chief Gita Gopinath talked about vaccine equity during an interview. She said, “Vaccine inequity is tragic. We are at the end of 2021 with high-income countries having vaccinated 70 per cent of their population and lower-income countries less than four per cent.”
