Steve Martin joined Martin Short’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” guest-hosting debut to swap some insults with his old pal.
During Short’s monologue, his “Only Murders in the Building” co-star strolled onstage, joking that Jimmy Kimmel had offered him the gig first, “but I said no.”
“Well, I really do appreciate you being here, Steve,” Short said. “There are very few people in this world that I truly admire, and Steve Martin is very close to being one of them.”
“I love Marty,” Martin shot back. “He’s one of the hardest-working men in show business, because it just doesn’t come naturally to him.”
Short retorted that it was “a joy” to share the stage with “someone who looks like he should be selling reverse mortgages.”
Martin, for his part, was equally overjoyed to “work with someone who looks like a former women’s tennis champion.”
