Not far from New York, Atlantic City is one of the most popular getaway destinations. After you have explored the state’s nature and wildlife reserves, you can head down to Atlantic City for some fun and relaxation.

  • Take A Walk Along the Boardwalk

There are few things more enjoyable than a walk down the beachfront. The Boardwalk in Atlantic city allows you to do just that. Just about everything you will want to see while in Atlantic City can be found along this four-mile boardwalk. The boardwalk was originally built back in 1870 and is still popular today.

The Entrance to the Stars can be found along the boardwalk, Atlantic City’s version of Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.

  • Enjoy Rides at the Steel Pier

Does riding a rollercoaster, playing carnival games, or riding the Ferris wheel interest you? Then look no further than the Atlantic City Steel Pier. The man-made pier is filled with attractions and things to do for the whole family. It also has some exceptional views, is located 1000 feet offshore above the water.

Originally built in 1898 and rebuilt in 1993, the pier was once one of the most popular attractions in the country.

  • Visit Absecon Lighthouse

On the north end of Atlantic City, you will find the Absecon Lighthouse. The lighthouse is well known for still having the original First-order Fresnel lens installed. This lens was fitted when they built the lighthouse back in 1857. The lighthouse has 228 steps and is 171 feet high. This makes it the tallest in the city and the third tallest in the country for its type of lighthouse.

There is also an interesting museum at the lighthouse for visitors to explore.

  • Check Out Ocean City

Ocean City is a mere eleven miles south of Atlantic City (18 miles by road). The area has some of the best beaches in the country and has a great boardwalk to explore, filled with things to do, including theatres and museums.

This is a great place to explore when travelling with family.

  • See Lucy the Elephant

Have you ever seen a giant elephant? Well, probably not as big as Lucy. Lucy is a 65-foot tall, six-story high elephant built on the coast close to Atlantic City. The elephant was constructed in 1881 and is made out of wood and tin.

Lucy stands in Josephine Harron Park and is listed as a historical landmark.

  • Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall

When travelling, nothing says holiday more than a concert. The Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall is famous for hosting some great celebrities over the years and for putting on some incredible shows. The hall was opened back in 1929 and is one of the most popular concerts and event venues. It is famous for being the home of the Miss America finals.

Apart from its show line-up, the hall also has the largest instrument in the world; a pipe organ with 33000 pipes, eight chambers, and 1000 stop keys. This is definitely a must-see!

  • Visit the Aquarium

Seeing the underwater world is fascinating and is made easy thanks to aquariums. The Atlantic City Aquarium is a fun hands-on experience where you get to interact and see the underwater world. The aquarium has lots of intriguing creatures to see, including sea bass, sand tiger sharks, northern stingrays and many more.

  • Learn About The City’s History

Learning about a city’s past can really help you to understand its culture and heritage. The Atlantic City Historical Museum is located in the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall. It shows the history of the small fishing village, which became one of the busiest resort destinations in the United States.

Guests can see artefacts, costumes, maps, photographs, postcards, and lots of Miss America memorabilia.

  • War Memorials

Atlantic City is home to two war memorials celebrating and respecting those who have fallen. The World War I Memorial was built in 1922 and is dedicated to those who gave their lives in the first world war.

The New Jersey Korean War Veterans Memorial was built in 2000 and dedicated to those who gave their lives on the Korean Peninsula between 1950 and 1953.

  • Atlantic City Art Center

Now located at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall, the Atlantic City Arts Center is a must-see for all tourists. The art centre hosts many exhibits for local and national artists, showcasing photography, sculptures, paintings, and other media.

The Atlantic City Art Center also hosts concerts, gallery talks, and art demonstrations.
