Since ‘the stroke of the midnight hour’, India is one nation that has seen huge alterations and modifications in its policies and purposes.  Nonetheless, it has grown. A strong instance of it is India’s wholehearted acceptance of the English language. The culture neutral phenomenon of the English language which appropriated it to every region, every discipline has led it to reach the crust of the nations. The globalization and IT revolution have stripped the language of its culture and class marked phenomenon. India is one nation to progress from Angrezi Hatao (in many parts of North India) to creating and fostering Indian English.

India is proudly a multiverse nation. However, the Hindi vs non-Hindi controversy that was smouldering just after independent India’s nascence appeared to attack its multicultural pride. Thus, with the Official Language Amendment Act (1967), the status of an associate official language that English got in India has become a huge success in terms of saving it from unnumbered conflicts that otherwise might have had a severe effect on the nation’s proud diversity. The process of adapting a language with its culture seems to have been ended with the adoption of English as the language of the internet, language of info age, and most importantly as a library language. Significantly, English is one language that has become a repository of every other culture’s information. Also, the nuances and grievances of a nation’s constructs are agreeably reaching the whole world in the English language.

India for an instance, has writers like Mulk Raj Anand, Arundhati Roy, Vikram Seth, and many more. Similarly, Chinua Achebe and Gabriel Okara are famous names in Africa observing the same cultural neutral stance of the English language. These countries with several others have moved beyond to thinking the language as a colonial legacy and appropriated it to be their own. Braj Kachru who has considered the process of Indianization of English in detail, maintains in “The Indianization of English: the English Language in India” (1984) that features of the English language in India have been considerably influenced by the Indian socio-cultural norms that stipulate rules by which word symbols are related to each other to transmit messages

The polemics of cultural confrontations via the English language are done away with. Now, it moves not with its cultural baggage but as a culture neutral tool for economic and communication factors. In India, the states like Gujrat, Maharashtra, West Bengal which were initially indifferent or opposed to the English language are now encouraging and facilitating residents’ grip over the English language since primary stages.  This change in attitude has not lessened India’s patriotic nature but has advanced India’s pragmatism. Keeping in mind the globe, it can be said Indian English has noted the distinction between ‘British oriented’ and ‘internationally-oriented’ English, growing and gripping the latter to catch up with the rest of the world, thanks to English speaking natives.  And keeping in mind the nation, it can be acknowledged that linguistic nationalism is not a hindrance anymore, thanks to the English Language.
