The novel coronavirus has been declared a pandemic by the WHO last month. The first coronavirus case was detected in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and since then no research, pharmaceutical company or science has been able to come up with an antidote for it. To deal with this issue the governments of several countries are left with no option but lockdown. India too has applied this approach and declared countrywide lockdown on March 24th, 2020 as it can be the only solution in this darkest hour.

But there are many issues which the country is facing for centuries which are being neglected currently because neither do we have time, men power, and other resources nor are we prioritizing it.  Deprioritization of these issues can make those severe problems in coming future. Domestic violence is one of those social issues which took soar since the country went into lockdown as numbers keep increasing.

Domestic violence can be explained as abuse, torture or violence done by one person over the other in a domestic setting. The violence can take any form and not just physical like, financial, emotional, verbal, sexual and reproductive, etc. In most cases, the victim of domestic violence is a woman.

When the whole country heard about the lockdown almost all the people wanted or hoped to be at home, with the family inside the four walls. Home gives us a feeling of comfort and safety but does this statement hold true to everyone. That would be no, because for some people being at home inside the walls is not less than any cage they are stuck in and here we are talking about the victims of domestic violence.
