We all love food, don’t we? Let’s face it who does not? Eating food is the most salutary thing you can do. Food is life so this is the day for all the foodies out there. 16 October is celebrated as World Food Day. The theme for World Food Day 2020 is “Grow, nourish, sustain. Together. Our actions are our future.”

So, today is one of the most significant days observed across the globe. But, why is it so special? Let’s go back to history on the day of 16 October 1945, when the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nation tried to honour food by celebrating world food day internationally. Regarding World Food Day 2020, the official website of FAO says:
“ World Food Day is calling for global solidarity to help all populations, and especially the most vulnerable, to recover from the crisis, and to make food systems more resilient and robust so they can withstand increasing volatility and climate shocks, deliver affordable and sustainable healthy diets for all, and decent livelihoods for food system workers. This will require improved social protection schemes and new opportunities offered through digitalization and e-commerce, but also more sustainable agricultural practices that preserve the Earth’s natural resources, our health, and the climate.”
World Food Day 2020 will be marked by more than 150 countries arriving together to combat the COVID-19 pandemic which has further strained an already fragile food system intimidating to push millions more into starvation. The simple agenda of celebrating such a day is to acknowledge the people who die because of the scarcity of food.
They suffer from hunger, and that is why this day is recognized to ensure the necessity for food security and a nutritious diet for everyone. This year’s World Food Day is consecrated to highlight food and agriculture as a notable part of COVID-19 response.
The main objective of this day is to consider food as a fundamental human right. It must be kept in mind that together we can compete against hunger, we can provide a better tomorrow for our children by feeding them good food. On this very day, we need to pledge ourselves to exterminate this evil of hunger, starvation.
We all should be bound to summing ease to the lives of people around us by treating them with healthy and nutritious food. We, as a citizen of India, should take enterprise and augmentation to save food for the people because, in some part of the world, people are still starving and dying of hunger. It is not only the duty of people in power to uplift poor people but ours too. We have the responsibility to strike a balance between those who are hungry and those were treated with the best of the cuisines.
Not only this, but we should also acknowledge the people who are behind delivering food to our homes, most importantly, our farmers. They should be treated with the utmost care and meticulously uplifted. It is time to support our food heroes, who are farmers and agricultural workers.
We all should feel blessed to have food on our plate because it is the continuous result of immense hard work that is put in at various stages. The global pandemic also has taught us to respect and value things because there is uncertainty all around.
