Cybersecurity and data privacy has always been a matter of concern. Especially when the cyber laws of your country are not so stringent. But what does it take to protect your data? Sometimes, just a singular combination of letters, numerals, and special characters.
Choosing a password that is hard to guess, is a real task. It takes quite a run of the brain to find a password that is strong enough to not be cracked by someone. But do we always put in so much thought? Aren’t there times when we just go with the flow and type “password”, “123456” or “qwerty” because we don’t want a password we can’t really remember? With various social media platforms and nearly every website asking you to create a login ID, it is hard to choose a password that’s unique yet not forgetful. We often end up using the same password across different platforms that put a lot of our data in jeopardy. It gives easy access to cybercriminals to the data as sensitive as bank account details, credit card numbers, etc.
In a report, NordPass mentioned the top 200 most common passwords of the year 2020. The report also mentions the number of users who keep those passwords, the time it might take for a cybercriminal to crack it and how many times has this combination been exposed. From “123456” to “picture1” to “password” to “111111” have all made it to the list.
It’s hard coming up with a new password every time we log into a new account. But the best way to ensure it’s a unique combination is by using a mix of uppercase, lowercase, symbols, and numerals. After all, the best option is to take the necessary precautions beforehand rather than being sorry later.
