Since the last decade, talks on climate change are of great importance. International Organizations like UNO are also raising concerns about the same. Countries are throwing light and introducing Various administration policies to reduce the carbon emissions released by the burning of fuels. Vehicles from all over the world emit a total of 14% of emissions into the atmosphere.

To reduce this percentage, Electric vehicles are introduced in all the nations to make this planet a better and fresh place. Germany and Sweden are the places where electric highways or e-highways are built as small model projects. Israel is another country that has a great idea of fast charging e-vehicles.

India has also been putting efforts to shift to sustainable electric vehicles that will be charged through solar energy. There have been talks about building electric highways from Delhi to Jaipur and Delhi to Mumbai. This will have a deep impact on Indian Transport. According to the Road and Transport Minister, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, eventually, all types of vehicles will be running on these e-highways. He says E-mobility is a futuristic and ever-lasting source of Transportation.

Nitin Gadkari’s Vision of E-Transport

Gadkari plans to transform the Indian transport system into an E-Transport system by the end of 2030. The minister said that the cost of electric vehicles is high due to the cost of lithium-ion batteries and added that the cost is coming down steadily as well. “ Mobile phones used to cost a lot in the past but are much more affordable today.

Electric vehicles are costly now but their running cost is low, Gadkari said. We are developing electric buses, e-double-decker buses. A pilot project is being considered for an e-highway between Delhi and Mumbai. Just like railways, I want to see electric trucks on our highways”, Gadkari added. He believes Electric roads are the future of energy efficiency.

He also focuses on scraping policy. According to this policy, all the existing vehicles that have been running for the last 15 years will now be destroyed. This will not only provide raw material and cut production costs for new vehicles but also will remove harmful and unsafe vehicles in the Indian Families. In Global Forum 2021 on ‘Climate Action: Electric Mobility Now’ he also highlighted that India is going to be one of the biggest manufacturers of EVs. The Government is supporting the manufacturing and encouraging localization of all EV parts. India can generate 81% of lithium-ion batteries that are used in EVs.

Benefits of E-Highway and E-Roads

Charging EVs takes a minimum of 40 minutes. This is surreal for people to wait in this modern-day lifestyle. The plan is basically to charge the vehicles while they are running on roads. This can be done using wireless charging units attached to roads and highways.

The need for parking the car during the journey will be eliminated. Construction of proposed electric highways is planned and cables will be set up for heavy transports such as trucks.

These charging highways will save energy and are cost-effective as compared to other charging infrastructure. Hence, land resources will be saved and those taken by petrol pumps will be terminated. Modern E-Highways are integrated with Railway systems. Wireless technology will allow us to drastically reduce the capacity of the batteries used in vehicles. Many companies have been striving for improving the charging infrastructure and increasing the range of e-vehicles.

Conclusion

In the upcoming decades, economic models, Businesses, infrastructural projects, and Manufacturing units are going to be set up according to the environment and with the least or no carbon emissions emitted from them. We shall at the individual level contribute to this step by accepting and using E-vehicles. One can’t transform the world, probably he can’t. But what can be done is, doing what we’re passionate about, what is good for this planet, and doing what our best at(which) the world will change cumulatively.
