The country has claimed to support Tokelau, Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa, Tonga, and Tuvalu by providing free vaccinations if they are willing to accept.

In an interview, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said,
“Never before has the entire globe sought to vaccinate the entire population at the same time.”

She also added,

“This will be a sustained rollout over months, not weeks, but our pre-purchase agreements means New Zealand is well-positioned to get on with it as soon as it is proven safe to do so.”

The country has said to have already bought agreements for the Pfizer-BioNTech and Janssen Pharmaceutica vaccines.

It has reported that New Zealand has access to 7.6 million doses from AstraZeneca which is likely to facilitate 3.8 million people. With the partnership with Novavax, they will have 10.72 million doses which would be sufficient for 5.36 million people.

For effective use, two doses of each vaccination are required.

“Our approach allows for the possibility for some vaccines to be more suited to certain population groups or for deployment in different areas,” Ardern explained.

New Zealand acknowledges the fact that it is important for people from different countries to come together to fight the common enemy.
