One of the main reasons that made Bhagat Singh participate in the freedom struggle was the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in Amritsar. Thousands of peaceful protesters were fired after they gathered at the occasion of Baisakhi by the acting brigadier-general Reginald dyer.

They were charged for fatally shooting a 21-year-old British police officer by the name of John Saunders. It was a case of mistaken identity because the original target was British police superintendent James Scott.

It was believed by them that James Scott was the officer responsible for the death of Lala Lajpat Rai. Lala Lajpat Rai was a nationalist leader who died due to injuries caused during a lathi charge.

Bhagat Singh publically announced about preventing Rai’s death and after that went into hiding. After several months of this incident, he along with his associate Batukeshwar Dutt on April 29 executed another incident. They shot two explosive devices inside the Central Legislative Assembly of Delhi. The two allowed their arresting with the slogan of “Inquilab Zindabad“

In the Prison, he demanded better living services for the inmates and continued his protest. Bhagat Singh Ji gained a lot of Public sympathies when he along with Jatin Das went on a hunger strike. It ended with the death of Jatin Das from Starvation on September 29 and 2 years later Bhagat Singh was hanged.

Even today, the protesting farmers at Tikri Border and other parts of the country like Punjab and Haryana celebrate the birth and death anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ji.

He was not just a martyr, Bhagat Singh was also a political and social visionary. In his short life, he achieved something big that is hard to achieve. His political writings underline the vision of an independent India.

At a very young age instead of thinking for his future, he becomes a great patriot and revolutionary thinker. A less talked about aspect of his personality is a secular approach that he adopted as a revolutionary thinker.

The best tribute that we can pay to Shaheed Bhagat Singh is fighting bravely against communism, superstition, economic disparity, and hatred.
