Delhi high court transferred over 100 sitting district court judges

The Delhi high court on 19 November (Thursday) reshuffled 100 sitting district court judges. The order by Registrar General, Manoj Jain issued on 18 November (Wednesday) listed the names of 168 judges who were transferred and another 47 judicial officers who have been posted as Metropolitan Magistrates. The order comes at an unusual time when on 13th November, the high court had pushed 16 promotions for the post of Delhi higher judicial services.

Magistrate Purshottam Pathak who was hearing cases concerning northeast Delhi riots, and magistrate Gurmohina Kaur who was hearing cases related to the presence of foreign individuals in the Tablighi Jamaat congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz, were the main highlight among the 16 judges up for promotion. The new reshuffle order affects 215 current and new judicial officers, out of which 168 were judges and 47 were judicial officers.

Chief metropolitan magistrate Vishal Pahuja has been transferred to Karkardooma District Courtroom, Pahuja was about to hear the concluding statement of Priya Ramani’s legal team.

MJ Akbar discarded the allegation made by Priya Ramani and had filed a defamation case against Ramani and claimed that the article had attacked his stellar reputation.

This reshuffle comes as a relief for the accused as a new transition might mean rehearing of various arguments from all sides again.
