After seven decades of Independence, A remote village in Ladakh gets electrified

Although India is always in the headlines for its advancement in technology and infrastructure but still over millions of houses in villages are living in the dark without electricity. A Remote village, Fotoksar in Leh Ladakh is located between two major high altitude passes of the Union Territory of Ladakh finally gets electricity for the first time since the independence. It spread tremendous joy and festivity among the residents of this village who lived in darkness for 73 years. 

On Sunday, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh Tashi Gyalson inaugurated the NHPC power grid line for Fotoksar village as quoted by Power Development Department Officials (PDD). He also added that five more hamlets- Yulchung, Nyraks, Skyumpata, Lingshed, and Dipling will get access to the power supply in the coming years.

Village residents whose happiness knows no limit said that “we are happy now that we finally have electricity in our village. Now our children can study well in their studies and progress in life”.

Tashi Gyalson, the new Chief Executive Councillor of Leh said that a remote village like Fotoksar got electrified after 70 years of darkness after the visionary initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who launched the Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Gram Jyoti Yojana and the energetic effort of Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal. He also added that” We thank PM Modi and our MP for electrifying this remote village. I feel very lucky to inaugurate this power line within one month of becoming the councillor of the area and later CEC”.

Tashi Gyalson also discussed forthcoming telecommunication facilities in a remote village, SingheyLakok after seven decades, Gyalson said that work on the installation of Jio network towers at Fotoksar is underway and other hamlets of Ladakh like Yulchung and Lingshed will also see such development in the coming years.

Soon other remote villages like Nubra, Changthang, and Sham of Leh district will also be connected with the Northern Grid as said by the CEC.
