Coastal Floods In 2030

Driven by climate change, coastal floods are increasing day by day. Over the last 150 years, average sea levels have increased, leading to an increase in the number of coastal floods, and it will continue to grow. Floods will become more common in the upcoming years, especially in coastal areas.

  • A recent study has found that 3-4 cm of sea level is increasing annually around the globe, and it is expected to rise 0.3-2 meters by the end of this century. This has increased the chances of catastrophic coastal floods occurrences in future.
A recent study has found that 3-4 cm of sea level is increasing annually around the globe, and it is expected to rise 0.3-2 meters by the end of this century. This has increased the chances of catastrophic coastal floods occurrences in future.

Many of the major coastal cities of the world will be underwater by 2030. Coastal cities of countries like India, China, Indonesia have the highest risk around the globe.

Almost 40% of the world’s population lives around these areas. Because of flooding, groundwater inundation, increased beach erosion, these people lose their property and livelihood and are finally forced to migrate.

Not because of climate change only, but because of astronomical reasons, there will be a dramatic increase in the number of coastal floods in the upcoming years, says research by NASA.

At the beginning of the mid-2030s, the alignment of rising sea levels with a lunar cycle will cause coastal cities to experience more frequent and violent floods.
