1. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Any college going student from any part of the world who is studying English or Literature will already have read or set to read To Kill a Mockingbird. However, if you have not already read it then it should be added to your list. The character of Atticus Finch remains one of the foremost heroes of racial equality and justice, and this book has some disturbing instances of racial bigotry and rape. 

2. The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger

The Catcher in the Rye is a perfect book that deals with topics such as loneliness, anger, identity, rebellion, sex, and superficiality, among others that almost every adolescent faces during growing up. The book’s protagonist, Holden Caulfield, cannot endure the hypocrisies of his high school boarding school any longer and tries to flee to New York. This book should definitely be on college student’s list.

George Orwell’s dystopia world has been compared to contemporary, global events from time to time. As our world has taken a step back from progress in recent years, 1984 is a good book to scare us straight. 

4. This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald
