Hatred towards Pakistan finally caught up to the infamous Karachi Bakery in Bandra, Mumbai.
After incessant badgering by MNS workers, objecting to the Pakistani name, Karachi Bakery finally rolled down its shutters.
The Karachi Bakery in Bandra was part of the chain owned by Sindhi migrants from Karachi Pakistan.
Haji Saif Sheikh, Vice President of MNS, boasted about his victory in a tweet saying, ” After massive protest for its name, Karachi Bakery finally closes its only shop in Mumbai.”

Bakery Manager, Rameshwar Waghmare, claims that the closure was not influenced by the Pakistani name controversy.
” We shut shop after the old lease agreement lapsed. Our landlord had been demanding a higher sum as rent which was unviable for us. The lockdown had already caused business volumes to drop”.

Sindhi Hindu Ramnani Family, the owner of the popular bakery chain will decide whether to rent a new space or let the brand name die in Mumbai.
“There was no reason to capitulate by changing our name. The Bakery was a legitimate business with all valid licenses and approvals. Our decision is based on business factors. Let others take credit for it if they wish,” said Waghmare who is now jobless along with other employees of the bakery.
In an effort to stay relevant and get in the good graces of current political powerhouses, Haji Saif Sheikh had launched a campaign to pressure the bakery to change its Pakistani name.
“I did not ask Karachi Bakery to shut the business. But our soldiers are being killed on the border. Every day we receive news of skirmishes with Pakistan. So I gave a 15- day ultimatum to either change the name or the spelling. I said spell it Karachi. They replied saying the name reflects their age-old ties to their native city. Today I’m happy.”
