Mirzapur Season 2 is a revenge drama that largely delivers on its two-year wait. Guddu and Golu return to take on the Tripathis, new players expand the fight for Purvanchal, and strong performances, especially from the women, carry a long, violent season. Cast and characters

The core cast returns: Pankaj Tripathi as Akhandanand Tripathi (Kaleen Bhaiya), Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit, Divyenndu as Munna Tripathi, Shweta Tripathi Sharma as Golu Gupta, Rasika Dugal as Beena Tripathi and Kulbhushan Kharbanda as Bauji. Rajesh Tailang and Sheeba Chaddha return as Guddu’s parents, and Harshita Gaur plays his sister Dimpy.

The new faces make a mark. Vijay Varma plays twin brothers Bharat and Shatrughan Tyagi, and handles both roles with control. Isha Talwar plays Madhuri Yadav, a widowed politician’s daughter-in-law who grows into a power player. Priyanshu Painyuli is Robin, a small-town con man who becomes useful to the wrong people.

Storyline

Season 2 picks up after the wedding massacre that ended Season 1. Guddu and Golu survive, heal, and plan to destroy the Tripathis. Kaleen Bhaiya, meanwhile, tries to move into politics while Munna grows more restless to take the throne.

The story widens beyond Mirzapur to Lucknow, Jaunpur, Siwan and Bihar, bringing in the Tyagi family and a new set of alliances. The violence is still heavy, but the season spends more time on politics and family rivalry, and less on shock value.

The Tripathi household remains the most grounded part of the show. The tension between Bauji, Kaleen Bhaiya, Beena and Munna feels lived in, and Pankaj Tripathi again shows how much he can do with stillness.

What about the women of Mirzapur?

This is where Season 2 improves most on the first. Golu changes from a bookish student into a cold, focused avenger, and Shweta Tripathi Sharma makes the shift believable. Beena, played by Rasika Dugal, uses the men around her to protect herself and her child, and her quiet scheming is one of the season’s best threads.

Isha Talwar’s Madhuri moves from grief to ambition in a way that sets up the next chapter. Dimpy and Shabnam also get more to do. The women are no longer side characters in a man’s war; they shape the outcome.

What works and what does not

• Works: performances across the board, the political track, Vijay Varma’s double role, and a final episode that changes the balance of power.
• Does not work as well: a slow middle stretch, some subplots that go nowhere, and episodes that run longer than they need to.

How Season 2 compares with Season 1

The first season, released in November 2018, was a shock to many viewers. Its raw violence, sharp dialogue and small-town setting were new for Indian streaming, and it quickly became one of Prime Video’s most watched Indian shows.

Season 2 is less surprising but more ambitious. It has more characters, more locations and more political plotting. Some fans found it slower, but the payoff in the final two episodes is bigger, and the writing gives the supporting cast far more depth than before.

If you are new to the show, watch both seasons in order. Season 2 assumes you remember the wedding attack, the death of Bablu and Sweety, and the shifting loyalties inside the Tripathi family.

Where the Mirzapur story stands in 2026

Season 2 set up exactly what followed. Season 3 released on Prime Video on 5 July 2024, with Guddu trying to hold power and Kaleen Bhaiya recovering in the shadows. It got a mixed response, with many viewers saying they missed Munna, whose story ended in Season 2.

The franchise then moved to the big screen. Mirzapur: The Movie, directed by Gurmmeet Singh and produced with Excel Entertainment, released in cinemas on 4 September 2026. Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu return, with Jitendra Kumar joining the cast. The film is set during the events of the first season.

It had one of the biggest Hindi openings of 2026, earning about Rs 24.5 crore net on day one, and crossed Rs 200 crore gross worldwide, according to trade figures. Critics were broadly positive. A fourth season of the series has been widely discussed, but no release date had been announced as of October 2026.
