Two NDRF teams are leading the rescue operation and have been able to rescue 25 from the debris, with more than forty emergency workers.

NDRF Director General Satya Pradhan has assured that more teams will join the efforts.

The building was approximately 40 years old with 40 flats and around 150 residents, an official said.

“The Building was on dangerous building list and notice was issued by the civic body to vacate it” [Dr. Pankaj Ashiya , Commissioner, Bhiwandi Nizampura City Municipal Corporation].

The residents alleges that even after they were served notices the landlords don’t want to renovate the buildings.

According to Maharashtra housing and area development authority between 1971 and 2018 there have been 3528 building collapse incidents killing over 800 people, reports The Quint.
