As happening as the platform is, the election of the Chief Executive Officer is getting quite some limelight. The platform’s name is Twitter and the newly appointed CEO is Mr Parag Agrawal.
Twitter has always been under the limelight for the controversial tweets made on Indian politics by various figures across the country or outside the country, but what’s interesting is that the platform that was about to be replaced by an Indian version of the same has found a CEO in an Indian itself.
Parag Agrawal, an Indian by birth, is all set to become the youngest CEO of a multimedia platform. He’s under the same umbrella as Sundar Pichai, the Google head, Arvind Krishna of IBM, and Satya Nadela, Microsoft. These Indian are the ones to lead a US technologies company that has a mark on the global market, bringing laurels to their homeland.
Parag Agrawal, 37 is a graduate of IIT Bombay and an alumnus of the famous Stanford University. He completed his PhD in Computer Science from Stanford and worked at Microsoft. Alongside, he did his stints in R&D units at Yahoo and AT&T labs. He joined Twitter in the year 2011 as a software engineer and by 2017 was appointed as the Chief Technological Officer.
He has been in the company for the last 10 years and has emerged as Twitter’s first distinguished engineer due to his work across revenue and his contribution to increasing audience growth. Later on, he was appointed as the CEO of Twitter on the 29th of November 2021 as soon as Jack Dorsey stepped down after completing 16 years as the CEO for Twitter. The two new powerful Indians working at this famous microblogging site are Mr Parag Agrawal and Mr Vijaya Gadde as its policy and safety lead director.
With this news bombing the trade market, the share price of Twitter went up as high as 10%.
Jack Dorsey in an open letter to the employees wrote that the selection was done rigorously and unanimously. After a strong word with everyone, it was decided to appoint Agrawal as the CEO. Dorsey finds Agrawal to be curious, probing, rational, and determined. He learns from him daily as he leads the new ideas from his heart and soul. Dorsey further expressed his deep trust in Agrawal and said he knows he’ll deliver to the best of his ability.
Agrawal in his note to the colleagues and employees addressed his vision and also his last ten years journey at Twitter. He wrote in his official tweet that he joined the microblogging platform in the year 2011 when there were only 1000 employees and has been a witness to the success of the company. He has seen the rising and knows what it is to be in the shoes of employees who are junior to him. Furthermore, he feels it is a challenging position but is excited to take the company to new heights as the eyes of the whole nation, as well as countries from all parts of the globe, are on his abilities and decisions.
Elon Musk in his interview has also commented on the same, saying that the US has always benefited from Indian minds. It would be interesting to see whether this decision was done on the merits or is a smart move from the US-based company to keep its feet in the Indian Markets. Days back, it was in news to ban Twitter in India due to unsolicited tweets about the Prime Minister and the Government of India
