The 5 richest rappers in the world in 2026 are Jay-Z (about $2.8 billion), Dr. Dre (about $1 billion), Drake (about $400 million), Sean “Diddy” Combs (about $400 million) and Kanye West (about $350 million to $400 million). Jay-Z and Dr. Dre are the only rappers counted as billionaires by Forbes.
Very little of this money comes from album sales. The richest rappers made their fortunes through liquor brands, headphones, record labels, streaming catalogues and investments. Below is the 2026 ranking, with sources, followed by the next five names and what changed this year.

Richest rappers in the world 2026: quick table
| Rank | Rapper | Estimated net worth | Main sources of wealth |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jay-Z | $2.8 billion | Spirits brands, Roc Nation, music catalogue, art |
| 2 | Dr. Dre | $1 billion | Beats sale to Apple, music catalogue |
| 3 | Drake | $400 million | Streaming, touring, OVO brand |
| 4 | Diddy | $400 million | Bad Boy label, earlier liquor and media deals |
| 5 | Kanye West | $350 million to $400 million | Music catalogue, Yeezy brand |
1. Jay-Z: about $2.8 billion
Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter became hip-hop’s first billionaire, as named by Forbes in 2019. Forbes’s real-time tracker put him at about $2.8 billion in September 2026. His biggest gains came from selling stakes in Armand de Brignac champagne to LVMH and D’Usse cognac to Bacardi.

He also founded Roc Nation, the entertainment company, and owns his master recordings.
2. Dr. Dre: about $1 billion
Andre “Dr. Dre” Young co-founded Beats Electronics with Jimmy Iovine. When Apple bought Beats for $3 billion in 2014, Dre’s share made him one of the richest people in music overnight. Forbes estimated his fortune at about $1 billion in 2026.
He also produced landmark albums for Snoop Dogg and Eminem, and his royalties from those catalogues add steady income.
3. Drake: about $400 million
Drake is one of the most streamed artists in history. Celebrity Net Worth estimates his fortune at about $400 million, built on streaming royalties, huge tours, his OVO label and clothing line, and brand partnerships. His public feud with Kendrick Lamar in 2024 dominated hip-hop news, but it did not change his earning power much.
4. Sean “Diddy” Combs: about $400 million
Combs built Bad Boy Records and made large sums from Ciroc vodka and the Revolt TV network. His wealth estimates have fallen sharply since 2023, when multiple lawsuits were filed against him.
In July 2025, a New York jury convicted him on two prostitution-related transport charges and acquitted him of racketeering and sex trafficking. In October 2025, he was sentenced to 50 months in prison. Celebrity Net Worth’s estimate is about $400 million, though figures for him vary widely.

5. Kanye West: about $350 million to $400 million
Kanye West, who now goes by Ye, was once a Forbes billionaire thanks to his Yeezy deal with Adidas. Adidas ended the partnership in October 2022 after his antisemitic remarks, and Forbes dropped him from its billionaires list. His remaining wealth comes mainly from his music catalogue, real estate and his own Yeezy business. Estimates range from about $350 million to $400 million.
Richest rappers ranked 6 to 10
These estimates come from Celebrity Net Worth:
- Eminem: about $300 million, from album sales, touring and his catalogue.
- Pharrell Williams: about $250 million, from music, production and fashion, including his role as menswear creative director at Louis Vuitton.
- Kendrick Lamar: about $200 million, boosted by his 2025 Super Bowl halftime show and his stadium tour with SZA.
- Nas: about $200 million, helped by early investments in tech companies.
- Master P: about $200 million, from No Limit Records and various businesses.
Just outside the top 10 are Snoop Dogg (about $160 million), Nicki Minaj (about $150 million) and 50 Cent (about $100 million), according to the same source. For more celebrity wealth lists, see our people section.
How rappers build wealth beyond music
The pattern across this list is clear. Streaming pays artists a small amount per play, and touring is expensive to run, so the biggest fortunes come from owning things. Jay-Z owned stakes in drinks brands and sold them to global companies. Dr. Dre held equity in Beats rather than taking a flat endorsement fee. Diddy took a share of Ciroc’s profits instead of a one-time payment.
Owning master recordings matters too. Artists who control their masters earn more from every stream and can sell their catalogues later for large sums. Younger rappers now often negotiate for ownership early in their careers, after watching these deals pay off for the generation before them.
What changed in 2026
- Jay-Z’s lead widened as his investments grew in value.
- Dr. Dre remained a billionaire thanks to his Beats wealth.
- Diddy’s estimated fortune kept falling after his 2025 conviction and sentencing.
- Kendrick Lamar moved up after a huge 2025, including his Super Bowl LIX halftime show.
How we ranked them
Forbes tracks real-time net worth only for billionaires, so we used Forbes for Jay-Z and Dr. Dre. Forbes has not published a full hip-hop wealth list in recent years, so ranks 3 to 10 use Celebrity Net Worth estimates. None of these figures are audited, and they move with markets, deals and court cases. More music news is in our entertainment section.
