Uttar Pradesh is the most populated state and yet the crime figures from the state are also very shocking. Uttar Pradesh has always been in a bad light when it comes to law and jurisdiction in the state. The state in itself is well-known for heinous crimes and its unsafe environment. Riots, kidnappings, rape, communal violence, murders etcetera every other day.
Apart from this the actions taken by the police are also disappointing and had been seen to be working against the law at many times. Poor law and order in the state are one of the reasons for such bad conditions of the state and its people.
According to a report released by National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) Uttar Pradesh recorded the most number of murder cases in India in the year 2020. The stats also talked about how the numbers of kidnapping cases were also highest in the year 2020. These entire statistics raise serious questions about the law and order and the Government policies to curb the crimes in the state.

A case of an illegal arrest made by Uttar Pradesh Police in Delhi came in news recently. The Delhi High court slammed the UP police for this illegal arrest of the father and brother of a man who was accused of kidnapping a 21-year-old woman from Shamli. The arrests were made in a complaint by the mother of the woman alleging the kidnap of her daughter.
The couple stated that they both were adults and got married in July 2021 with their own free will. The woman’s parents were and still are against their marriage and are threatening the couple and the man’s family.
Despite the fact, UP police allegedly arrested the father and brother of the man from their residence for interrogation. The adult married couple sought help from the High court and told how the family has no information about the whereabouts of their family members since the time Uttar Pradesh’s police arrested them without informing the Delhi Police.
Justice Mukta Gupta, a sitting Judge of Delhi High Court took a strong dig at the case and slammed the illegal arrest in the National Capital, strongly. She during the hearing made it clear to the Uttar Pradesh Police that these illegal actions won’t be tolerated in the National Capital. She stated “UP mai chalta Hoga yeh sab par yahan Dilli mein nahi chalega yeh’’ (This will not go on in Delhi).
The court mentioned how UP police have violated law and actions at every step and none of the arrests made was following the law of the country.
Justice Gupta slammed the SHO and asked “Without asking the age, you go ahead and arrest people. If she is a major then isn’t her word going to prevail?”

Delhi Police told the court that UP Police informed them about the arrest of the two men under section 366 and 368 of the Indian Penal Court but had no information about the intimation of the arrival of police from Shamli. “Aap ne tou Khudana dikhaya hai, main na saare CCTV nikalwa lungi and agar mujhe mil gaye ki Shamli police Dilli aayi thi, mai aap sab k khilaf departmental inquiry start karwadungi,” said the court.

The court asked the police why they didn’t reach out to the woman but rushed to arrest her husband’s brother and father. The court also said that the couple were adults when they got married with their own free will and nothing illegal has been done by the couple so far.
It is unfortunate that even without finding that the woman was major or minor and without finding correct facts from her, arrests in the FIR in question have been made,” said Justice Gupta.
