A startling and unsettling “monkeys vs dogs” gang war has gone viral on social media, with reports that monkeys killed over 250 puppies in Beed, a district in the Indian state of Maharashtra.
According to media sources, the incident occurred in Majalgaon, Beed, after several dogs mauled a young monkey to death in a village called Lavool, some 10 kilometres from Majalgaon.
The research revealed that, while a few monkeys had thrown puppies from lofty heights, the instance of dogs attacking a baby monkey or the account of a gang fight amongst them had no basis in fact.

However, there is some truth to the narrative that some monkeys climbed trees with puppies but did not throw them; instead, they fell after failing to balance on the tree and died. Monkeys are said to have taken puppies to the roofs of buildings but did not toss them. They died of malnutrition as a result of their inability to descend the structure on their own. Locals claim that the monkeys terrorize them and that they rarely venture onto rooftops. It’s probable that this is why the puppies perished because they were left undiscovered.
Locals have contacted forest department authorities, who have agreed to capture all monkeys in the vicinity. Locals even took it upon themselves to capture the monkeys, but they were injured as a result of falling from those heights.
Over the last three months, similar instances have occurred. These two monkeys have made their way to our village. In general, monkeys do not harm humans, but people are terrified of them. In the last few days, some people have been hurt while fleeing these monkeys. However, no monkey bites have been reported in this village.
Witnesses claim that once the puppy population in Lavool was wiped out, the primates turned their rage on schoolchildren.
Two monkeys were trapped by the forest department in Maharashtra’s Beed district on Sunday for allegedly stealing puppies and abandoning them on trees or roofs, where they died of starvation or falling over the last few months, according to an official. He claimed the monkeys were captured on Saturday and relocated to their native habitat.
At least 200 puppies were killed, according to a resident of Lavool hamlet, after they were “taken away” by the two monkeys. Only 3 to 4 incidences of puppies dying after being taken away by the two monkeys have been reported from this hamlet, according to Range Forest Officer Amol Munde. Radhakishan Sonawane, a local, claimed the two monkeys used to carry puppies with them.

The Twitterati’s Reaction
Twitter users compared the monkeys in the Maharashtra village’s gang feud to those in the film Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Several users also claim that monkeys killed not 80, but up to 250 dogs and puppies in the village. Authorities, on the other hand, have yet to clarify this figure.
The hashtag ‘#MonkeyVsDoge‘ and the word ‘monkeys’ were trending on Twitter on Sunday morning, with many users posting their views and memes.
