The Farmers protesting in U.P against the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri have stopped their protest after the state government announced compensation. The farmers were protesting over the death of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri and the government has offered compensation to the Dead and injured farmers in the incident.

The Uttar Pradesh Government announced a compensation of 45 lakhs to the dead and a government job to one of their family members. It also announced that a retired high court Judge will investigate the matter.

In an interview with PTI, Additional Cheif Secretary (Home), Awinash Awasthi said that a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh will be given to the injured farmers. Nearly, 8 farmers were killed on 3rd October when violence erupted at a farmer’s protest in Lakhimpur Kheri.

There were farmers and BJP workers among the total number of people killed. The violence erupted against the 3 farm bills passed by the government ahead of UP Deputy Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s death.

The violence has caused a political stir and the opposition parties are trying to corner and criticize the Yogi government of U.P. The Congress General Secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the government and the police detained her at Sitapur when she tried to reach Lakhimpur Kheri. Police were also stationed outside the residence of Former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav after he sat at a protest near his residence after being denied to visit Lakhimpur Kheri. 

The Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath termed the incident as ‘Unfortunate’ and promised strict action against those guilty. The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) organized a nationwide protest against the government authorities over the incident.

Some Farmer’s organizations in the country have been protesting against the 3 Farm bills passed by the government for more than 1 year now. While the government has always said that the farm bills are meant to improve the farming sector of the country.
