2. The Bristol Balloon Fiesta, United Kingdom-

How about colourful balloons with different shapes that mark a festival? It is an annual event in England called the Bristol Balloon Fiesta that began in 1979. The most special attraction in this extravaganza is the ‘Night Glow’ where countless balloons are flowing in the air during the night. They glow in the night, giving a gorgeous sight to the viewers. What can be better than a festival for bringing happiness in life with a sight of colourful masks? On every fourth Sunday of October, the people in the Philippines celebrate the MassKara festival. It is a fun-filled ride of colours that was devised as a method to shun away the gloom in life. The story behind celebrating this festival is equally beautiful. In the 1980s, the citizens of the country were facing a difficult financial crisis. To add to the problems, a disaster struck, killing hundreds of people. So, the locals decided to celebrate something different and host this festival to bring some hope and optimism to the life filled with gloom and an atmosphere of dejection.

4. The Loi Krathong Festival, Thailand-

What better can you do for an ideal evening than celebrating the Thai festival of lights and lanterns? One of the best picturesque sights in the world is an evening of Loi Krathong in Bangkok.  People get around nearby lakes, rivers, or canals to pay their respects to the Goddess of water. They release lotus-shaped rafts that are decorated with candles, incense, and flowers in the water. 5. Holi, India–

This festival is celebrated at the end of winter in the months between February and March on the streets of India, particularly in north India. The festival that symbolizes the win of good over evil is played by splashing water and applying colours on each other. Holi is special because it marks the love of Lord Radha and Krishna.

6. La Tomatina, Spain–

Who can forget the la Tomatina festival of Spain from the movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara? Well, this festival brings the childhood dream of making a mess into a true reality. This festival is celebrated in the town of Bunol in Spain, where people throw ripe tomatoes over each other. Dating back to the year 1945, this festival is like a big food fight.  It’s celebrated during the last Wednesday of August everywhere. You will find people covered in orange-reddish mush from tomatoes, and the streets have a similar colour that day thanks to the ripe Tomato mess. 7. Rio Carnival, Brazil-

Do you know about the biggest Fiesta in the world? It’s undoubtedly the Rio Carnival that witnesses 2 million people each day coming together on the streets for celebration. People dance to samba music, illuminated dazzling colourful outfits with countless options of cocktails. The whole atmosphere turns energetic, with people dancing on the streets to the beats of steel brass drums with quirky bejewelled outfits.  This festival dates back to 1723. It is a carnival in the streets of Rio de Janeiro, with special parades lasting up to 5 days. It’s celebrated in February and March. 

8. Harbin International Ice Festival, China-

How about making use of Ice for a colourful festival? The Harbin ice festival is annually celebrated in North-East China’s Heilongjiang province. The festival involves innumerable theme parks with unique events and amazing Ice sculptures. The beautiful towers, delicate ice sculptures, and creative ice sculptures, and Chinese-style castles are brightened with colourful neon lights from tip to toe. The visitors and locals get to experience colours between the innovative use of Ice in this cold place. It begins from 5 January and extends up till late February.
